Buying from abroad

A home in Kuala Lumpur, from abroad

Start with the life you want in Kuala Lumpur.

Start here

If you are choosing from abroad, begin with the places you will use each week. You can narrow the buildings once you know the area.

Start with the household, not the skyline

Note who will live in the home, how often it will be occupied and what happens while you are away. Decide whether outdoor space and control over the building matter more than shared maintenance and facilities. The choice between a house and a condominium often narrows the search more effectively than a familiar address.

Use three distinct neighbourhood starting points

Bangsar lets you organise a search by pockets and housing types. In Damansara Heights, distinguish landed streets from residences within larger developments. For Bukit Tunku and Kenny Hills, begin with bungalow, land and renovation requirements. These areas offer different kinds of homes; the right one depends on your own routine and the exact property.

Plan an evidence-led visit

Provide the destinations you expect to use, the dates you can view and the questions that cannot be answered remotely. Leave time to revisit a serious candidate at a different time of day. Request a clear record of the actual unit or house, distinguishing it from show units, renderings and images of shared areas.

Make it yours

Prepare questions for independent advisers

Before making a commitment, ask a suitably qualified Malaysian lawyer to confirm the rules applicable to your circumstances and the exact property, including eligibility, title and any approvals. Seek appropriate tax and financing advice separately. This neighbourhood guide does not quote purchase thresholds, confirm eligibility or replace a property-specific legal assessment.
